Industrial Arts
Students at Winkler Elementary School have the opportunity to learn about woodworking starting in grade 5. In grade 5 & 6, students receive woodworking instruction as one of their exploratory blocks. They come for a double period once a cycle for 5 cycles.
Winkler Elementary School students in grades 7 & 8 receive woodworking instruction as a course which is run during the exploratories. In these grades students generally come 10 days for half the day.
The Industrial Arts shop and the Home Ecology lab at Winkler Elementary School are also used by Parkland Elementary School. Grades 7 & 8 students at Parkland Elementary School receive both Industrial Arts and Home Economics instruction here. Each student attends Industrial Arts for half the year and Home Ecology for the other. These students come for a triple period once per cycle.
Grade 5 Industrial Arts
The grade 5 Industrial Arts exploratory is a short introductory program which introduces students to woodworking. Students receive instruction on general safety the use of hand tools and begin using their first power tool. The students this year are building gumball machines.
Grade 6 Industrial Arts
The grade 6 Industrial Arts exploratory is a short introductory program which introduces students to woodworking. Students begin by learning some general safety and are then introduced to two more machines. Students this year are building Coaster sets. The coasters will include an engraved image of their choice.
Grade 7 Industrial Arts
The grade 7 Industrial Arts program begins with instruction on general safety and the use of hand tools.
Grade 8 Industrial Arts
The grade 8 Industrial Arts classes at W.E.S. build furniture projects through which they learn about project planning, wood movement, wood joints, safe use of woodworking machines, power tools and hand tools.
